Eagle Rock is located in El Chorro Regional Park. There is a $3 admission fee to get into the park, but there are no special permits required for trail use.

The park itself is most well-known for the dog park and its golf course rather than the hiking trails, but Eagle Rock Trail is actually quite a hidden gem that should be recognized.

The trail is well-maintained and starts at the gate located just past the dog park. You should make sure that you pick up the interactive brochure located at the start of the trail as this will help you spot pack rat nests, Native American grinding holes, as well as the other interesting features that are found along the path.

The path climbs up the coastal hills in the area, providing you with just enough elevation in order to bring you to Eagle Rock Vista. Here you will be able to enjoy spectacular views of the coastline as well as Moro Rock. The trail then loops back down traveling past live oaks and gorgeous wildflowers along the way.

1) Bring water

Most of the hike is exposed to the sun, which means you’re going to get thirsty when you go on this trail. Make sure you pack plenty, bring your own Hydration Bladder to stay hydrated!

2) Wear a cap

Or any headgear that could give you shade because most of the trail isn’t covered. Throw in some shades on a sunny day.

El Chorro Regional Park has a lot of features you can check out such as the botanical garden, playground, picnic area, dog park, volleyball courts, ball fields, and Dairy Creek Golf Course. You could always enjoy these.
