About the Will Rodgers State Historic Park

Will Rogers State Historic Park is the former estate of American humorist Will Rogers. It lies in the Santa Monica Mountains in Los Angeles, in the Pacific Palisades area. 

In what is now the Los Angeles neighborhood of Pacific Palisades, Rogers built his ranch, where he lived with his wife Betty and their three children, Will Jr., Mary and James. The 31-room ranch house, which includes 11 baths and seven fireplaces, is surrounded by a stable, corrals, riding ring, roping arena, golf course, polo field and riding and hiking trails that give visitors views of the ranch and the surrounding countryside, 186 acres The ranch became a State Park in 1944 after the death of Mrs. Rogers, and the house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

1.  Take the Ranch Tour

Public tours of Will’s Ranch house are offered to visitors every Thursdays to Sunday. (check the available schedule and private tour reservation Email WRSHP.Events@parks.ca.gov for more info).

Tours meet in front of the Ranch house. Will’s ranch house is accessible only through guided tours. There is no charge for the ranch house tour. No preregistration is needed to take one of the tours unless your tour group is 15 or more people.  They are offered on a first come, first served basis. 

2. Wander the Adventurous Hiking Trails

At Will Rodgers State Historic Park hikers can enjoy a moderate 2-mile loop to and from Inspiration Point. The Rivas Canyon Trail also provides a moderate 2.1-mile hike to Temescal Gateway Park.  Hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians can tackle the Backbone Trail National Trail into the Santa Monica Mountains, which can take you 70 miles all the way to Point Mugu.

3. Experience Movie Park at Night

When evening kicks off, Hollywood comes back to the home of one of its earliest movie stars! A preshow band &  gourmet food trucks are available at Will Roger’s Ranch Home. Bring a favorite lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the movie outdoors on Will’s front lawn.
