The Bootjack Trail starts from Bootjack Trailhead parking area and goes on a very steep descent. The trail follows Bootjack Creek and goes through Van Wyck Meadow. En route, the Bootjack Creek joins the Rattlesnake Creek and Spike Buck Creek to become Redwood Creek. Hikers will also pass through the Muir Woods and the Muir Woods National Monument.

The park is also home redwoods and oak forests as well as approximately 60 miles of hiking trails that connects to more than 200 miles network of trails beyond the state park. Mount Tamalpais State Park also houses the Muir Woods National Monument, a United States National Monument and part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

There are so many trails on Mount Tamalpais. It is highly recommended that, prior going on a hike, one should get directions or download a detailed map. Mount Tamalpais maps can be downloaded online. Moreover, maps can also be purchased at the Pantoll Ranger Station or the East Peak Visitor Center.

2) Appreciate the history of the area.

Trails may either be constructed for hiking purposes or may have a story behind it that is worth knowing about. Visit the locality’s website or information center on site to learn about the area.

3) Everything is worth a shot.
