The prime feature of Castle Crags State Park are the dramatic rock formations known as ‘Castle Crags’. The state park is located in Northern California, protecting the rocks as well as surrounding habitats found in Interstate 5. The elevations range from 2,000 feet, along the Sacramento River, to 6,500 feet at the summit. The said crags are also being protected by the Castle Crags Wilderness Area of the Shasta Trinity National Forest.
The best way to explore the dramatic rock formation of Castle Crags is via the Crags Trail, which stretches to the foot of Castle Dome, a 2,150 feet elevation of granite crags. The trail is approximately 5 to 6 miles and passes through the Indian Springs. Crags Trail ends in Castle Crags Wilderness, an area by the Shasta Trinity National Forest and a separate entity from Castle Crags State Park.
