The Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is a state park located within the Colorado Desert in Southern California. The park was named after 18th century explorer Juan Bautista de Anza and the Spanish term ‘borrego’, meaning bighorn sheep. The state parks stretches to 600,000 acres and is considered as the largest state park in California and the second largest in the neighboring states. The park conjoins the Shelter Valley and the Borrego Springs, where the Culp Valley Trail is found.

The Culp Valley Trail is a moderately trafficked trail on the Culp Valley, a primitive campground in the San Ysidro Mountains nearby Borrego Springs. It feature primitive camping for a reason – as it does not have water or picnic essentials. On the other hand, a vault toilet is available. The Culp Valley trail is a half mile wheelchair-friendly trail and is part of the Culp Valley Loop, a 2 mile loop to Culp Valley Overlook.

1)  Bring extra bottles of water

The Culp Valley Trail is located within Culp Valley, a primitive camping ground. It features primitive camping – no water or picnic tables. It is essential to bring extra bottles of water. A carabiner is useful when there is not enough space inside your bag.
