Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve

Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve

Location: Fairbanks, AK
Difficulty: Extremely difficult
Features: Rugged terrain, untouched wilderness,

This 8.4 million acre park has a lot of untouched and well preserved wilderness. In fact, it doesn’t have paved or rugged roads, established trails or formal campgrounds, dense vegetation, tussocks, boggy ground, and several stream and river crossings. This is a playground for hikers looking for extremely challenging terrains. Gates of the Arctic is home to jagged peaks of the Brooks Mountain Range, snow capped valleys, boreal forest, six Wild Rivers, and stretches of dry polar desert.
