Rathert Grove/ Grizzly Creek Trail
Location: Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park, Humboldt County, CA
Miles: 1.8 miles
Difficulty: easy
Duration: 1 hour
Users: Hikers only. No dogs, horses, and mountain bikes. Some facilities are wheelchair accessible, but there’s no trail access for wheelchairs.
Features: easy walk through the redwoods, Grizzly Creek, Rathert Grove (old growth redwood grove), river access and campground within Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park
The trail can be found in the Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park located beside Highway 36. This trail has two different views with a few small redwoods on one side and Van Duzen River on the other. The Grizzly Creek Trail ascends on top of the old-growth redwoods beside the road, it comes close to and somewhat above a creek. The park connects 2 more other loop trails namely:
- Hikers Trail, which extends eastwards through a forest with only small redwoods
- Nature Trail, where you can identify a few different kinds of plant species. This trail goes down to meet an intersection of the lower section of Hikers Trail
- Memorial Trail can be accessed through a seasonal footbridge on the south side of the river. (1.4 mile loop)
- Fisher Wouk Trail passes in between the road and the river on the west side of the park. This trail presents the most stunning trees out of all the trails. (0.4 one way)
