Mavericks

Location: San Mateo County, CA

Features: The wave quality is really epic here. If you didn’t already know this, Mavericks was the name of an Apple desktop operating system. The default desktop wallpaper is a big wave from the Mavericks surf area. You should only surf here if you’re a real pro. Forget experienced surfer, you need to be a veteran or a kamikaze even to surf here. There are very few surfers during the week, and it doesn’t have many more on the weekend. This place is world-famous for its big waves. This is a heavy-duty wave spot, and there are a lot of sharks here too. These waves are heart-thumping, bone-crushing, and serious. Don’t underestimate this place, and don’t surf here unless you have a clear idea that you can handle it.

Beach: You have a few options for reaching this place. One, you can park to Pillar Point’s south. You will just walk over a hill to a little beach close to the north jetty. It’s about a 40 min. paddle. The second way is to take a trip by boat from Princeton Harbor. It is located inside the city, and it is a short walk at 5 to 15 minutes.
