Three Mile Beach

Three Mile Beach

Three Mile Surfing

Location: Santa Cruz County, CA

Features: This surf spot is excellent for surfers of all experience levels. This spot is a little patchy on swells, and it shifts about a lot. You might get frustrated initially, but on the best swell, it can be the best surf spot around. Look for the southwest swell. This place has some gorgeous cliffs, cold water, and you are only semi-protected from the wind.

Beach: This place is called Three Mile for good reason. You need to go on Mission to its connection point at Highway 1. Then, you will go three miles (just past the garbage dump). Park your car in a visible area so it won’t get burglarized. It can be a bit of walk to get down there, but it is easy to find. You might want to park at Four Mile and just take the beach south. Remember, it is a good walk (like 15 to 30 minutes), so it might not be such a great idea to take your kids here. If you have small children, you might want to choose another beach. This surf spot is hardly ever crowded during the week, but it can get extremely crowded on the weekend.

Top 3 Adventure Hacks

1) Avoid the weekend

It’s always best to go on a weekday if you don’t like crowds. Don’t go on a weekend so you can enjoy the area only with a few people.

2) Set up a hammock

An ideal day at the beach would be resting in a hammock and enjoying the sea breeze with a cold drink on the side. Good news! You could bring your own portable waterproof hammock anywhere. At the beach, when you go camping, or even in your own backyard.

3) Surf’s up!

Bring your own surfboard to enjoy the waves.
