Cowell’s Cove

Cowell's Cove

Location: Santa Cruz County, CA

Features: This beach is located right in the city, and it is an easy place to walk to. It’s a great place for beginners to learn to surf, and you can’t really expect any great wave quality here. The waves are consistent though. It is very crowded during the week, and it is even more crowded on the weekends.

Beach: Cowell’s Cove is known as one of the best places for beginners to learn to surf in all of California, not just in Santa Cruz. It’s a fun, clean, and safe beach, but it is extremely crowded. Expect it to be overly crowded on a sunny weekend day. If you are a beginner, then you need to come here first. The parking is terrible because it’s right in the middle of Santa Cruz, but it is an easy walk. There are a lot of good longboarders here that will offer helpful tips and free advice. Get to know other surfers and just have a good time. The only real danger here comes from other peoples’ boards, so stay out of other peoples’ ways.

Cowell’s Cove is right in the middle of Santa Cruz. The water is nice, and there is no wet suit required.
